Some ideas refuse to arrive in a neat line. They begin as sketches, arrows, fragments of text, reference images, notes in the margin, and relationships that only become clear once everything can be moved around. Creative Whiteboard was built for that kind of thinking.

Version 0.1.0 Alpha is the application's first public milestone: a Windows desktop workspace built around an offline-first infinite canvas.

More than a drawing surface

The goal is not to imitate a sheet of paper on a screen. Creative Whiteboard is meant to provide a flexible surface for several kinds of work:

  • freehand drawing and annotation;
  • brainstorming and visual planning;
  • arranging reference material;
  • reviewing documents and adding context;
  • organizing the early shape of a project before it becomes formal.

These activities overlap naturally. A planning note may turn into a diagram. A diagram may need an imported image. A document review may lead to a larger map of decisions. Keeping those pieces together reduces the friction between thinking and making.

Why local-first matters

Creative Whiteboard is designed as a desktop application rather than an account-dependent online service. The canvas should remain useful when the network is unavailable, and a creative workspace should not require a subscription or remote account simply to hold a person's ideas.

That principle influences both the experience and the engineering. The application uses Electron, React, and Vite, but the important part is the boundary around the user's work: the desktop app is responsible for its own secure window, native integration, and local project workflow.

What an alpha means

The word alpha is intentional. This is a working release and a foundation, not a claim that every planned capability is finished. Early releases are where real use begins to expose which tools feel natural, where the interface creates friction, and what deserves to be built next.

Before publication, the project went through its automated tests, linting, production builds, dependency review, desktop packaging, and public-release verification. The Windows installer is currently unsigned, so Windows may display a SmartScreen warning. That limitation is disclosed plainly rather than hidden behind the excitement of a new build.

The next stretch of canvas

The long-term vision is a dependable place where visual thought can remain fluid without becoming chaotic. That means continuing to improve the canvas, project organization, document workflows, and the small interactions that make long creative sessions comfortable.

Creative Whiteboard v0.1.0 Alpha is not the end of that process. It is the point where the canvas becomes real enough to invite people onto it.
